The Ramsey Academy former head boy is celebrating an impressive set of GCSE results as he prepares to take the next step in his academic journey.
Max Farnes, 16, who has spent all five years at the Halstead school, achieved a strong set of grades including three 6s, five 8s and a top grade 9 across a range of subjects.
Reflecting on his time at the academy, Max said his role as head boy had been a defining part of his school experience.
“I enjoyed being head boy. There were good opportunities in public speaking, which have helped me improve,” he said. “It was a great opportunity to practice leadership skills.”
Max studied a broad curriculum including triple science, PE, Spanish, history, maths and both English literature and language, demonstrating both academic strength and versatility.
Opening his results, he said he felt a sense of relief and pride.
“Overall I’m really happy with my results. I’m feeling positive,” he said. “If you asked me yesterday how I’d have felt, I would have said that’s great. I’m really pleased.”
His achievements mark the culmination of five years at the school, a period he says he will look back on fondly.
“I’m going to miss this place. I’ve felt quite nostalgic about it over the summer,” he added. “This is probably the last time I’ll be here, which is quite a thought, but I’m excited for the next chapter.”
Max is set to continue his studies at Colchester Sixth Form College, where he will take politics, modern history and economics.
Looking ahead, he already has ambitions for a future career in public service.
“I’m thinking of going into a career involving politics,” he said. “Right now I like the idea of working within the civil service, something that keeps me in the loop with current affairs.”
With strong results behind him and clear aspirations ahead, Max leaves The Ramsey Academy as both a high-achieving student and a confident young leader ready for the opportunities to come.
