A busy fundraising weekend at a popular High Street bar has raised more than £1,500 for a crucial anti-knife crime campaign.
Halstead's Whispers Wine Bar was transformed into a hub of entertainment and community spirit across the weekend, with activities ranging from blackjack and bingo to karaoke discos, raffles and a human fruit machine.
Guests took part in an ice bucket challenge, a “house punch” drink event and performances from the Keely Mac Duo, helping to draw in steady support.
The three day event raised an incredible £1,553 for anti-knife crime campaign, The Liam Taylor Legacy.
The organisation was founded by campaigner, Julie Taylor following the death of her grandson, Liam as a result of a knife crime incident in 2020.
The money raised will help fund 13 vital bleed kits on top of the 800 already distributed through the campaign.
Wine bar manager and event organiser Debbie Day said she was overwhelmed by the response and praised both staff and local businesses for getting behind the cause.
She said: “I have to say what a weekend. From blackjack to karaoke disco, the event was so much fun and we couldn't be happier with the total.
"Shout out to Mike who is one of our great customers who doubled the ice bucket challenge.
"So many businesses supported us which is great. My staff worked so hard making this weekend happen."
Ms Taylor said she was deeply moved by the community’s efforts.
“My heart is so touched by Deb, her staff and community by what they did for us," she said.
"It's absolutely amazing and we are so grateful. It means another 13 bags for the community,” she said.
Funds raised from the weekend will go towards funding and distributing vital bleed kit bags across Essex and beyond.
