Passengers across the Greater Anglia network face hours of delays and disruption.
A points failure at Ilford has blocked two of the area’s four lines, disrupting Greater Anglia and Elizabeth line services between London Liverpool Street and destinations including Clacton, Colchester, Braintree and Southend Victoria.
Disruption is expected to continue until 3.15pm today, September 7.
A spokesman for Greater Anglia said: "Due to a fault with a set of points, the equipment that allows trains to change onto different tracks, only two of the usual four tracks are open at Ilford.
"Greater Anglia and Elizabeth line services will be sharing track, leading to congestion and delays.
"Greater Anglia and Network Rail are sorry if your journey has been affected by this disruption."
Passengers with advance tickets can travel on earlier or later trains if their booked service is cancelled.
Passengers delayed by 15 minutes or more may be entitled to compensation through Greater Anglia’s Delay Repay scheme.
