Drivers in Halstead are being warned to plan ahead as part of the A131 is set to close for four nights later this month for resurfacing works.
A notice issued to residents confirms that Essex Highways will carry out carriageway surfacing on Head Street/Sudbury Road (A131) from September 21, 2026, lasting for four nights.
The works will take place overnight between 8pm and 6am, with no weekend working planned.
During this period, the A131 will be closed between:
- A1124 Hedingham Road/Market Hill
- Star Stile/Star Lane
The notice also confirms associated closures, including:
- A1124 Colchester Road
- All side roads connected to the affected stretch
The A131 is a key route through north Essex, linking towns including Halstead, Braintree and Sudbury, meaning disruption is likely for both local residents and through traffic.
Motorists are being advised to allow extra time for journeys and follow signed diversions where necessary.
The resurfacing forms part of ongoing maintenance across the county’s road network, with a number of temporary traffic regulation orders already in place across Halstead in recent weeks.
