Table Table to close A12 and A133 restaurants on Thursday

Table Table is closing its 32 sites across the UK on Thursday, September 3, in a nationwide hospitality shake-up which will see two north Essex venues shut.

Among the locations shutting down are the Bowling Green Table Table in Weeley, just off the A133, and the Balkerne Gate Table Table in Ardleigh, located off the A12.

The closures follow Whitbread’s April announcement of a five-year strategy to save £250 million, which includes cutting around 3,800 jobs across the UK and Ireland.

According to The Sun, a letter seen by the newspaper reveals both Essex sites have been acquired by Queensway Inns and will be rebranded as "value pubs."

Dominic Paul, chief executive of Whitbread, previously said: "We always challenge ourselves to improve and, in light of significant cost increases in the form of business rates and national insurance, as well as the implied market discount to our inherent value, we’ve looked hard at the options open to us to maximise value creation over the medium and long-term.

"This plan will transform Whitbread into a higher-margin, higher-returning pure-play hotel business."

Of the 261 Whitbread locations set for closure, 53 have been sold to Queensway Inns, which plans to launch a new chain of affordable pubs.

Details such as the new name, menu pricing, and reopening dates have yet to be confirmed.

Whitbread intends to replace the closed restaurants that have not been sold with restaurants inside Premier Inn hotels.

Ahead of the closures, Table Table shared a message on social media thanking its customers.

The post read: "On the 3rd September, Table Table will be officially closing its doors across all our locations.

"From quick mid-week dinners to decades of family celebrations, it has been an honour to serve communities across the UK.

"Thank you for everything."
