Essex's bank holiday weekend is set for a wet and windy start, with rain and blustery conditions arriving today.
This week has seen a change in the weather, following a prolonged period of dry conditions.
After seeing the driest July on record, torrential downpours have started hitting most parts of Essex, as the county moves towards autumn.
Today, Saturday August 29, the county looks set to be hit again by heavy downpours and strong gusts, bringing disruption to many plans for the summer bank holiday weekend.
Heavy rain is expected through most of the afternoon, easing into the evening, with gusts reaching up to 29mph.
The Met Office forecast for today reads: "Isolated early showers across Essex, otherwise dry start.
"Then heavy rain spreads northeast, possibly occasionally thundery.
"Rain clears by evening with widespread showers following, these often very heavy, thundery with gusty winds.
"Becoming windy later along the east coast. Maximum temperature 23 °C."
