A MUSICAL collective celebrating music from South America and the African continent is performing in Saffron Walden.
The South Atlantic Groove Project will perform at Joanna's Place at Fairycroft House in Saffron Walden at 3pm on Sunday, September 6 to open the autumn season.
The project is led by Uruguayan bassist Andrés Lafone, bringing together top musicians from UK world music.
Joanna Eden, who runs Joanna's Place, said: "We're so excited about this band to Saffron Walden as it has so many top players!
"If you love world music or grooves of any kind you will love this band!
"We're going to take Fairycroft House to South America and Africa for an afternoon!"
Andrés, who has become one of the UK’s leading Latin jazz bassists since relocating from Uruguay, has performed with artists including Basia, Tony Cleary and Aerto Moreira.
The South Atlantic Groove Project is his latest venture following the success of his band Negrocan, known for the international hit Cada Vez.
The line up includes saxophonist Tony Kofi, who is a four-time Parliamentary Jazz Award winner and MOBO nominee.
He has performed all over the world with his various ensembles, from trios to big bands.
Trumpeter Kevin Robinson has been a member of Simply Red since 2008, and is a composer and conductor in his own right.
Uruguayan guitarist Guille Hill has performed with Ola, Tom Jones and Mica Paris.
Percussionist Andrés Ticino, also from Uruguay, is known for his expertise in Latin American, Brazilian and flamenco rhythms and has performed in symphony orchestras all over the world.
Pianist and singer Joanna Eden has nine solo albums and last year performed at the Proms with Sam Smith and the BBC Concert Orchestra.

The group’s set includes music by Santana, Airto, and Abdullah Ibrahim, alongside original compositions.
Joanna’s Place is a regular series of jazz, world music, and spoken word events held at Fairycroft House.
