A ROAD in Saffron Walden has been closed due to an unsafe structure.

An emergency closure was put in place on Church Street from 3.30pm on Monday, with immediate action required to protect public safety.

The closure extends from the roundabout at the top of the Common, affecting access to Church Street from Ashdon Road, Castle Hill, and Common Hill.

No pedestrian or vehicular access is allowed.

A diversion will be in place while the works are carried out.

The closure is expected to be in place for up to five working days while safety works are undertaken.

Residents are asked to keep clear of the area and respect all barriers and signage.

A spokesperson for Uttlesford Council said: "We appreciate the community's cooperation while these urgent works are carried out."
