Passengers using trains to Stansted Airport are being urged to check their journey before setting off today after a major issue affected services across much of the country.
CrossCountry has warned of significant disruption on Sunday, August 23, after a power cut in Birmingham city centre affected the building housing its railway control centre.
Many of the systems used by control teams to manage services are unavailable, meaning train services across almost all CrossCountry routes have been withdrawn until further notice.
However, the operator expects a near-normal service to run on its route between Peterborough, Cambridge and Stansted Airport.
That includes trains serving Stansted Airport station, although passengers are still being advised to check before travelling as the wider disruption continues.

A CrossCountry spokesperson said: “A power cut in Birmingham city centre has affected the building where our control centre is located.
“As a result, many of the systems our control teams use to manage the railway are currently unavailable.
“Although colleagues are working hard to safely operate services using alternative processes, CrossCountry services will be significantly disrupted on Sunday 23 August.
“While we will run as many trains as possible, passengers should expect significant reductions to services and cancellations across almost all CrossCountry routes throughout the day.”
Ticket acceptance has been put in place with other train operators across the CrossCountry network.
Customers delayed by 30 minutes or more may be able to claim Delay Repay compensation, while those who decide not to travel can seek a refund from their original point of purchase.
Passengers should check the latest information through CrossCountry’s travel information page and National Rail Enquiries before heading to the station.
