SAFFRON Screen is in the running for a national award, and is calling for public support.
The independent cinema in Saffron Walden has entered the British Independent Film Awards’ Cinema of the Year award, supported by Kia.
Jason Bond, head of cinema at Saffron Screen, said: "We’re delighted to be entering Saffron Screen for this year’s BIFA Cinema of the Year Award.
"Last year, we were overwhelmed by the number of votes and fantastic comments from our customers, which showed us just how much people value having an independent cinema at the heart of the community.
"We’re proud of the programme, experience and atmosphere we offer, and of the team who make it all happen.

Cinemas across the UK were invited to enter the competition earlier this summer.
The award celebrates venues which do more than just screen films, recognising cinemas that serve as cultural hubs and gathering places.
Public voting is open until September 22.
A longlist will be revealed on October 13, followed by the announcement of five nominees on November 3, alongside the rest of BIFA’s 2026 nominees.
A specially selected jury of cinema professionals will select the winner, which will be announced live at the BIFA ceremony on Sunday, December 6, at London’s Roundhouse.

Now in its second year, the Cinema of the Year award is part of a partnership between BIFA and Kia.
