A former schoolhouse in one of Colchester’s most sought-after areas has had £200,000 cut from its asking price since it was first listed for sale.

The five-bedroom detached home on Lexden Road was placed on the market in May 2023 with an asking price of £875,000.

It is now being marketed with a guide price of £675,000 following a series of reductions, amounting to a fall of almost 23 per cent from the original figure.

The latest reduction was made on August 17, when the guide price was lowered by £50,000 from £725,000.

The price had previously been reduced from £875,000 to £750,000 in February, before a further £25,000 cut in May.

The freehold property, which is being marketed by Knight Residential, is described as a "unique" family home in a private and secluded part of Lexden.

"Once used as a school, the building has been transformed into a five-bedroom home combining period character with more modern family living space.

"At the heart of the property is a lounge measuring around 19ft by 19ft, featuring a vaulted ceiling, apex window and mezzanine floor.

"French doors open directly onto the rear garden, creating a connection between the main living room and the outside space.

"The fitted kitchen, measuring approximately 16ft by 10ft, leads into a separate dining room of around 17ft by 17ft, offering space for family meals and entertaining.

"There are five bedrooms across the accommodation, including a principal bedroom measuring roughly 16ft by 12ft.

"It has an en suite shower room, while a second principal bedroom measures around 12ft by 10ft.

"The home is listed as having three bathrooms in total.

"Outside, the property has an expansive rear garden surrounded by mature trees, which the agent says provides privacy and seclusion.

"There is also off-road parking to the rear, along with a garage.

"Planning permission has already been granted for a larger garage, potentially giving a buyer scope for further work, subject to any conditions attached to that permission and the usual approvals."

The house is positioned on Lexden Road, an area popular with families because of its access to schools, shops, and Colchester city centre.

Colchester County High School for Girls and Colchester Royal Grammar School are both within walking distance, according to the listing.

Nearby are shops, bars, restaurants, museums, the theatre, and Colchester Castle, while commuters have a choice of three mainline railway stations offering services to London Liverpool Street.

Tollgate and Stane Retail Parks are also within reach for supermarkets and other retailers.

The listing records an EPC rating of E and states that there is some asbestos guttering and roofing on an outbuilding.

It also says the property has good 4G data and voice coverage.
