One of the world’s largest and most advanced container ships is due to be visible from Essex tomorrow.
The OOCL WISDOM, a brand new container vessel measuring almost 400 metres long, is expected to reach Felixstowe port at around 3pm on Wednesday, August 19.
Harwich Haven Authority said the ship is 399.99 metres in length and 61.3 metres wide, with capacity for up to 24,168 TEU - the standard measure used for shipping containers.
The vessel also has a deadweight of 225,000 tonnes.
To put its size into perspective, its deck is roughly equivalent to three-and-a-half standard football pitches, while its fully loaded height is comparable with a 22-storey residential building.

OOCL WISDOM is the first of a planned seven-vessel series and is currently described as the world’s largest methanol dual-fuel container vessel.
The ship uses methanol-powered systems alongside energy-efficiency technology, which the authority said marks a step towards lower-carbon shipping.
Harwich Haven Authority said there should be plenty of opportunities to see the vessel from the shoreline as it makes its way into the harbour.
It has encouraged people who photograph the arrival to share their pictures online.
