A teenager accused of murdering a 12-year-old boy in Essex has pleaded not guilty.
The 15-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Basildon Crown Court on Monday in connection with the death of Bobby Bloomfield, who died after allegedly being hit by a car in Pilgrims Hatch.
Police were called to Ashwells Road at 5.40pm on June 7 following reports of a collision involving a child.
Bobby sustained serious injuries and later died in hospital.
The 15-year-old replied "not guilty, your honour" when asked to enter a plea.
A second defendant, 43-year-old William Lunnon, is also charged with murder.
Mr Lunnon, of Ashwells Road in Pilgrims Hatch, appeared via video link but was not asked to enter a plea during the hearing.
Both defendants remain in custody and are due to stand trial at Basildon Crown Court from November 9, with the trial expected to last up to six weeks.
Judge Samantha Cohen confirmed that a High Court judge will preside over the case.
Prosecutors told an earlier hearing at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court that Bobby and his friends had been on private property when Mr Lunnon approached them and asked them to leave.
It was alleged that the boys ran away but were chased by the two defendants in a car, which was being driven by the teenager.

Bobby’s family, in a statement released through Essex Police, said: "Losing a child is every parent’s nightmare.
"We are living that nightmare and no words can ever explain how we are feeling.
"Bobby brought light and life into all our lives and we have lost that forever."
Shenfield High School, where Bobby was a student, described him as a bright and energetic student who brought "so much fun and happiness" to those around him.
The school said: "He was charismatic, full of energy and had a great sense of humour.
"He had a special gift of making people laugh, whether through a joke, a funny comment, or his infectious personality."
