STUDENTS across Saffron Walden are celebrating receiving their A-level results.

Joyce Frankland Academy, Newport
A-level students at Joyce Frankland Academy, Newport have been praised for their "dedication, perseverance and resilience".
Headteacher Mrs Warwick said: "Today we celebrate the achievements of our A-level students and recognise the dedication, perseverance and resilience they have shown throughout their studies; each student should be immensely proud of what they have accomplished.
"At the heart of Joyce Frankland are the values of Aspiration, Respect and Responsibility, and this cohort has embodied those values throughout their time with us."
The results are particularly significant as this year's students are the final A-level cohort in the school's history following the closure of the sixth form.
Mrs Warwick said: "This group of young people will always hold a special place in our story.
"They have contributed to a proud tradition of Post-16 education and have helped shape the legacy they now leave behind.
"I would like to thank our dedicated staff, families and carers for the encouragement and support they have provided throughout the students' journey.
"Success is always a shared endeavour, and today's achievements reflect a collective commitment to the young people of this community."
"As our students move on to university, apprenticeships, employment and a wide range of exciting opportunities, we wish them every success and happiness in the future."
Saffron Walden County High School
Twin sisters at Saffron Walden County High School (SWCHS) are celebrating places from Oxford and Cambridge.
Alexandra and Meg Follows earned places to study medicine and geography at Cambridge and Oxford respectively, after achieving top A-level results.
Alexandra said: "I am so grateful to the sixth form team and to my sister for always pushing me to be better."
Meg added: "I am really proud of all our hard work and grateful for the support and dedication of our teachers.
"The boat race will be really interesting."
They are among six students from the school who achieved at least three As, with more than 100 A or Starred Distinction grades awarded overall.
Another set of twins, Matthew and Hamish Frew, are also celebrating, having secured places to study economics at their first-choice universities, UCL and Bristol.
Matthew said: "We’re ready to make a change."
Headteacher Polly Lankester praised the achievements of the entire year group and the wider school community.
She said: "We are absolutely delighted with this year’s results, and our students should be immensely proud of everything they have achieved.
"These fabulous results reflect not only the dedication and talents of our students but also the support of our staff, families, and the wider school community.
"We know our students are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and we wish the cohort of 2026 the very best as they take their next steps.
"They have been a fantastic year group who contributed so much to school life and we will really miss them."
Several students secured highly competitive degree apprenticeships.
Alyssa Glynn, who will be joining Azets, described her time at SWCHS as life-changing.
She said: "Moving to Saffron Walden County High was one of the best decisions I made.
"All the teachers are so ambitious and so caring, always providing constant support and encouragement.
"I enjoyed every moment.
"I would not be in the place I am and going to be without SWCHS."
James Quinn, who starts his degree apprenticeship at Barclays, expressed similar gratitude.
He said: "I appreciate all the support I have received over the last seven years at SWCHS."
Ethan Honeyman, who will join Guy Carpenter, also praised the school.
He said: "Being a part of the SWCHS sixth form was an amazing experience as every teacher of mine always ensured high standards of learning whilst keeping it accessible for all.
"Whenever I had a problem, my teachers were a valuable support network who helped me with coursework and day-to-day business."
Amy Kennedy, director of sixth form at SWCHS, said: "We are so pleased to see many students achieving competitive degree apprenticeships and employment opportunities on the back of their excellent results and hard work.
"This is an exciting and changing national picture for young people, and it is great to see them taking up these excellent opportunities.
"This, combined with fantastic university offers for the very vast majority of applicants, suggests that the future is very bright for this wonderful year group – they absolutely deserve it."
Other high achievers include Emily Campbell, who earned three A*s, and Keira Shaw, who will begin a scholarship to study in the United States.
