A HALSTEAD school has been praised for creating a supportive environment where pupils feel safe and thrive.
Richard de Clare Community Academy, which was placed in special measures in 2019, is continuing its improvement journey, earning a positive Ofsted report under the new inspection framework.
Ofsted inspectors found that children are making strong progress in a caring and inclusive setting, with all areas found to be 'Expected Standard'.
Headteacher Lucinda Bellett said: "I am immensely proud of this report and the recognition it gives to the hard work, dedication and care shown every day by our staff, governors, trust, parents and, of course, our incredible pupils.
"It reflects the inclusive, nurturing and ambitious school community we have built together.
"It is the unwavering commitment to our children by our incredible staff team that has been the driving force behind the progress recognised in this report.
"Their passion, resilience and determination to provide the very best opportunities for every child have created a culture where children can flourish academically, socially and emotionally."
The school improved to a "Good" rating in 2022, following its decision to join Bridge Academy Trust and appoint Miss Bellett as headteacher.
Since then, it has continued to build on its strengths.
Ofsted commended the academy for its inclusive ethos, well-embedded culture of respect, and effective pastoral care.
Inspectors noted children in Reception are making "accelerated progress" despite entering school with skills below age-related expectations.
They also praised the playground play initiative, which has helped to improve behaviour by offering productive activities, and highlighted high staff expectations and pupils’ "curiosity, perseverance and resilience".
Inspectors said: "There is a tangible sense of belonging; pupils confidently state that everyone is welcome.
"Richard de Clare is a caring school.
"Pupils want to be in school.

Miss Bellett, who will step down as headteacher in September, said: "Leading this school over the past five years has been an absolute privilege and joy.
"I am incredibly proud to be handing it over to a new headteacher in such a strong position, with clear strengths and a firm foundation for continued improvement and success."
