Parking is currently suspended on Kingsway to enable works to be completed safely as part of Essex County Council's Dovercourt Public Realm scheme, and to reduce the overall time of the project.
The scheme, which began last month, focuses on improving the route between Dovercourt Railway Station and the seafront.
Tendring Council has extended its Householder Parking Permit scheme at Orwell Place Car Park for July and August to help ease pressure and support the community while works continue.
Councillor Ivan Henderson, councillor responsible for economic growth, regeneration and tourism at Tendring Council, said: "We are listening to residents and businesses who have asked for support.
"We’d like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding and hope these measures will help encourage people to carry on visiting the town centre during these works.
"It is important to note this is only valid in Orwell Place, and not other car parks in Dovercourt, Harwich or further afield."
The sparking permit scheme, which usually stops over the summer, offers permit holders free parking between 11am and midnight at Orwell Place during the period.
Existing permit holders do not need to take any further action.
Mr Henderson said: "We have explored a number of options within our gift to help alleviate the current pressures on parking in Dovercourt town centre.
"This is what can be implemented quickly to offer immediate support."
The scheme forms part of a wider £9 million regeneration project across Dovercourt town centre.
This includes the creation of social housing on Victoria Street, redevelopment of Harwich Library, and the High Street Accelerator Green Spaces project, which brings improvements to the seafront.

Applicants will need to provide their council tax number.
Existing permit holders do not need to take any further action.
Cllr Henderson said: "We will continue to monitor the situation and work closely with our partners at Essex County Council throughout this project and the ongoing regeneration of the town centre."
