Cadent is set to replace 1,600 metres of ageing gas pipes in Lawford with new, more durable plastic infrastructure as part of its ongoing improvement programme.
A public information event will be held from 9am to 11am on Wednesday, July 15.
Cadent’s customer teams will be available in a gazebo on the green at the junction of Trinity Road, New Road, and Long Road in Lawford.
Eleanor Buxton, head of work management at Cadent, said: "The gas pipes in this part of Lawford have been working hard for around 70 years, but it’s now time to replace them so we can continue to deliver gas safely and reliably to homes and businesses.
"We know roadworks can be frustrating and we are sorry for any inconvenience caused.
"We will do all we can to keep disruption to a minimum and our teams will be available at the information event to answer questions about the work."
The project is part of Cadent’s wider investment plan to upgrade older gas mains across the East of England.
It involves replacing metal pipes with modern plastic ones which offer improved durability and reliability.
Work will begin on Monday, July 27, and is expected to take 14 weeks to complete.
The scheme will affect multiple roads in Lawford, including Long Road, Colchester Road, Milton Road, Garden City, Bromley Road, Grange Road, Claude Oliver Close, Wignall Street, and Cox’s Hill.
Due to the location of the pipes, engineers will need to work in the road, requiring a variety of traffic management measures.
These will include rolling road closures, two-way traffic lights in Grange Road, and multi-way lights in Wignall Street and Colchester Road.
Signed diversion routes and advance warning signs will be put in place as needed.

Cadent has said gas supplies will remain on for the duration of the work.
However, properties that take a direct feed from the pipes being replaced will experience a short interruption while being connected to the new main.
Residents will receive advance notice and further information if their supply will be temporarily affected.
