THE MP for North West Essex has welcomed the government's social media ban for under-16s.

The government has implemented the ban following Conservative proposals which were previously rejected by Labour MPs.

Kemi Badenoch, Conservative leader and North West Essex MP, said: "The government has finally woken up to the dangers of social media for young people and have now backed Conservative plans for a social media ban for under-16s.

"This is an important step in helping parents protect childhood for children.

"Hundreds of parents across North West Essex have written in support of the ban and will welcome this announcement too.

"The Conservative Party has been relentlessly fighting for this and will continue to work for the best implementation of the policy."
