Stansted-based developer City and Country has been recommended for planning approval for two residential schemes in Essex, comprising up to 300 homes on the edge of Stansted and up to 180 homes next to Birchanger.
Planning officers at Uttlesford Council have recommended approval for the schemes, highlighting the design quality, ecology and sustainable location.
The developments are also expected to help meet rising demand for affordable housing, which is being driven by plans to expand Stansted Airport and a new logistics park.
Simon Vernon-Harcourt, design and planning director at City and Country, said: "We are really pleased to have been recommended approval for our proposals at Stansted Mountfitchet and Birchanger.
"The schemes have been designed to address local housing needs while delivering significant community and environmental benefits."
The Stansted development will include a shop, café, nursery, care home and land allocated for a village hall.
The Birchanger scheme focuses on cycle and pedestrian links between villages, along with landscape improvements to support biodiversity and maintain separation between the settlements.
Both schemes will feature one to six-bedroom homes, with 50 per cent designated as affordable.
This is aimed at helping to address the needs of the 1,400 households currently on the council’s waiting list.
The plans also include 15km of new and improved pedestrian and cycle routes, a habitat bank and a community orchard.
Historic woodlands and hedgerows will also be restored as part of the proposals.
Mr Vernon-Harcourt said: "As someone who has spent most of their life living in Uttlesford, I wanted to do something really special.
"We are really proud of the scheme we have submitted and hope it is one the planning committee are able to endorse."
Planning committee documents praised the creation of a substantial green corridor and habitat bank between the two settlements.

The homes have been designed by Stirling Prize-winning architect Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios.
Properties would be built to meet Uttlesford’s latest sustainability standards and achieve net zero operational carbon.
The project also promises significant funding for sustainable transport, education, health and emergency services.
