An investment of over £400,000 is bringing a new American restaurant to an Essex high street.
Slim Chickens, a fast-growing US-born chicken brand, will open in Chelmsford at 9–10 High Street on June 2, taking over the Wendy’s unit.
The launch follows the opening of Essex's second-ever Slim Chickens branch, in Basildon in 2024, and is expected to create up to 30 jobs in the city.
James Branagh, general manager of Slim Chickens Chelmsford, said: "We are excited to be bringing Slim Chickens to Chelmsford and welcoming the existing Wendy’s team into the Slims family, as well as creating further additional new roles.
"The response to our Slim Chickens restaurant in Basildon has been fantastic, and we cannot wait for Chelmsford to experience our fresh, cooked-to-order chicken, signature sauces, and warm Southern hospitality."
The Chelmsford branch will be operated by JRK Restaurants, which also runs the Basildon site.
It will offer dine-in, takeaway, and delivery services, serving a full menu of hand-breaded chicken tenders, wings, Texas Toast, and a variety of sides.
The brand is known for its house-made dipping sauces and focus on freshly prepared food.
Slim Chickens was founded in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and has expanded rapidly across the UK with its Southern-style comfort food and “better chicken” philosophy.
Every chicken tender is marinated in buttermilk, hand-breaded, and cooked fresh to order, a process the company says ensures its trademark texture and flavour.
Customers can also download the Slim Chickens app to access exclusive offers, rewards, and free food from their first visit.
